SQUAD DESCRIPTIONS

Squad members are able to swim basic freestyle with correct breathing technique for 25m as well as backstroke for 25m. Swimmers will learn tumble turns, breaststroke and be introduced to butterfly in preparation for joining the Junior Squad. Squad members are required to attend 3 sessions each week. All members of this squad are invited to join Seahorses Swimming Club on Friday nights.

  • Minimum Sessions:
  • Kindy and year 1 – 2 x midweek sessions per week or more
  • Year 2 and above 3 x midweek sessions per week. 
  • OR 1 session on Saturdays only
  • All swimmers are encouraged to swim more sessions.
  • To have their own own flippers

Squad members are able to dive, tumble turn, swim freestyle and backstroke for 50m and swim breaststroke and butterfly for 25m. The squad focuses on improving technique in all 4 competitive strokes, increasing fitness and stamina. Squad members are required to attend 3 sessions each week. All members of this squad are invited to join Seahorses Swimming Club on Friday nights.

  • Minimum Sessions – 3 x midweek sessions
  • Or 1 session on Saturday only.
  • All swimmers are encouraged to swim more sessions.
  • To have their own own flippers
This squad is for swimmers who have achieved a degree of water competence and wish to progress stroke and fitness level. To advance to Intermediate Squad swimmers must be able to swim 100m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and 50m butterfly. Squad members are required to attend 3 sessions each week. All members of this squad are invited to join Seahorses Swimming Club on Friday night.
  • Minimum Sessions – 3 x sessions midweek
  • Or 1 session on Saturday only.
  • 9 years and over must swim in the mornings only midweek
  • 8 years and under must swim in the afternoons only midweek
  • All swimmers are encouraged to swim more sessions.
  • To have their own own flippers

This squad introduces children to a higher level of training intensity and is held in the mornings before and after school.  The age of the swimmers has been broken up on certain days for 10/under on Monday and Wednesday mornings and 10/Over swimmers on on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.

Emphasis is on strong and correct technique and endurance. During the training sessions, children are introduced to different swimming sets. To advance to these squads children should be able to swim 100m of each stroke, complete 200 IM and complete starts and turns in all stokes. This squad is for swimmers aiming to be competitive at the school swimming carnival. Swimmers are required to attend minimum 3 sessions per week. All members of this squad are invited to join Seahorses Swimming Club on Friday nights.

Minimum Sessions – 3 x session midweek

Or 1 session on Saturday only

All swimmers are encouraged to swim more sessions.

To have their own own flippers

This squad introduces children to the world of competitive swimming. Training intensity is increased. Emphasis is on strong and correct technique. During the training sessions, children are introduced to different swimming sets. To advance to these squads children should be able to swim 100m of each stroke, complete 200 IM and complete starts and turns in all stokes. This squad is for swimmers aiming to be competitive at the school swimming carnival. Swimmers are required to attend 4 sessions per week. All members of this squad are invited to join Seahorses Swimming Club on Friday nights.

  • Minimum Sessions – 4 x sessions midweek in the mornings

  • All swimmers are encouraged to swim more sessions.
  • To have their own own flippers and paddles.
  • 10 years and under must swim mornings
  • 10 years and over – option of afternoon sessions

The Competition Squad targets squad swimmers who have the potential to perform at a high level and show commitment to be competitive at school swimming carnivals (zone, area and state) and beyond. The Competition Squad will be held Monday, Tuesday (including dryland training 5.20 pm – 7.30 pm), Wednesday and Thursday evenings 5.20-6.30pm. Swimmers will be introduced and trained in competitive swimming.

Swimmers 9 years and over are required to join Swimming NSW to compete at external meets and are expected to attend Seahorses Swim Club on Friday nights. Inclusion in the Competitive  Squad is at the discretion and invitation of the coaches.

Requirements:

  • A minimum 4 sessions per week
  • Swim at Seahorses Club Nights in Terms 1 and 4
  • Swim the whole season (August to May)
  • They are expected to swim off season
  • Provide their own flippers and paddles
  • Required to join Swimming NSW to compete externally

This squad is for Senior Competitive swimmers wishing to go that extra mile with there swimming.  This squad is also available to ex-students as well who were at senior level.  The coaches will let know if you are eligible to swim in this squad.

The squad is high intensity focusing on correct stroke and endurance. Swimmers are expected to swim continuously in all strokes for the duration of a session.

The squad is held 4 monings a week. The minimum recommended attendance is 3 sessions.  Swimmers are welcome to attend Seahorses Swim Club on Friday nights and are required to be member of Swimming NSW.

Requirements:

  • A minimum 3 sessions per week
  • Swim at Seahorses Club Nights in Terms 1 and 4
  • Provide their own flippers and paddles
  • Required to join Swimming NSW to compete externally

This is a squad level for ex-students who were at senior level who are no longer with LPS but wish to continue with thier swimming.

Swimmers have the option of swimming in the Ex-students squad in the mornings only on Wednesday and Friday mornings 5.45 am – 6.45 am or Saturday mornigns at 6.45 am – 7.45 am.

For ex-students to swim in the Elite Squad is at the discretion of the coach.

  • Or 1 session on Saturdays only
  • To have their own own flippers

This is a squad level for students at Senior or Pre-senior level 10years and over who wish to swim for fitness only but not competitively any only once a week.

Swimmers only have the option of swiming in the Fitness squad on Friday afternoons.

The adult squad program runs at this stage on Thursdays and Saturdays at 5.45 am for 1 hour each session. It is up to you if you want to do one or both days.  The cost is $15 per session and is billed for the whole term upfront.
You need to be a competent swimmer and be able to swim roughly 2-3 kms (fins ok to use as well).  The coaches will work on a range of drills, technique, sprint, distance and general swimming fitness.

Timetable – Term 1 – 2023

This timetable will remain in place until the end of Term 1 – 2023.  A new timetable will be implmented for Term 2 -2023.

We will have limited availability and priority will be given to current/regular/holiday program and competitive swimmers who are committed to the program and the number of sessions required.

If you are unable to commit to the above or your child has too many other activities, then we recommend that you wait until you are able to fully commit the the requirements of or swimming program.

We also will have very limited places for our Learn to Swim students as well so if your child is in Learn to Swim, please check carefully what is available.
