LPS Leaf Committee
LEAF is a Sub-Committee that welcomes all members of our school community to come together to improve and maintain the school grounds and to ensure that the school’s open spaces are utilized to their full potential to give our children a healthy, green environment to play in.
This is done by parents and carers carrying out regular pruning, mulching, hedging and planting work as well as undertaking special projects, working bees and National Environmental Days.
This year LEAF is concentrating on giving the school entrances on Gladstone Parade, Grosvenor Road and the Pacific Highway a better presentation and a more welcoming feel.
We hold three major working bees each year.
- Clean-up -Australia-Day in first term
- National Tree Day in July
- and one other.
LEAF has had a fantastic response to these events. Without the interest, support and involvement of the school community we would not have been able to achieve such great results.
Congratulations to Merrin Hodge (P&C LEAF Coordinator) and the team of around 30 people who turned up on Sunday to beautify the school in readiness for our Education Day/Grandparents and Friends Celebration. Weeding, mulching, clearing rubbish and blowing leaves were among the many jobs completed on the day. I am sure that you would have noticed that the school looks spruced up, particularly all our entrances to the school. Mrs Scott and I ensured that the workers were kept fed with sausages and drinks. Don’t worry if you missed out this time as due to popular demand we will be running some mini-working bees later this year. Enjoy the photos of our fresh and tidy school!
Please come and help if you can and if you’re interested in learning more, just click on ‘Join Group’ at the top of the page. In addition to these major days LEAF meets on a regular basis during term time (often during school hours) to maintain their projects. LEAF welcomes anyone with garden design, horticulture, landscape and or carpentry experience as well as anyone who enjoys just to get out and help make their school a better place. All help is welcome in a physical way as well as advisory. We aim to involve our school community in the greening and cleaning and bettering of our school for now and generations to come, and to encourage pride and education for our community by involving families in projects to make our school as good as it can be.
